It’s been a devastating couple of weeks here at Bloodroot as we have watched all the news coming out of Western North Carolina and South Georgia in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and worked hard to support family members and friends trying to navigate the losses they’ve experienced. Luke’s family, Helen’s family, Katy’s sister and two cousins and their families all live in the Black Mountain, Montreat, Swannanoa, and Asheville areas of North Carolina. David went to college in Valdosta, Georgia, and taught high school in Douglas, Georgia, and all of these areas, as many of you know, were wrecked by Hurricane Helene. Luckily, Bloodroot only experienced a brief power and internet outage - we were barely affected. But, our family members and friends have all either relocated, are bunkered down with supplies, or are staying with friends in the area who have power and water.
For our Pay It Forward this month, we are offering two knives. Years ago, Hurricane Sandy knocked down a huge copper beech in Connecticut - a beautiful tree in one of our customer’s yards. Rather than see it go to waste, he cut up the wood from the tree and drove it all the way down to Georgia so we could use this gorgeous copper beech in the handles of our knives, and we’ve been using this seemingly inexhaustible supply ever since. We’ve used this copper beech in the handles of both of the knives we have on offer for this month’s Pay It Forward, and if you are selected (or even if you are not), you can choose to donate to any of the following reputable organizations doing good work in Western North Carolina and South Georgia:
Manna Food Bank (Asheville, NC)
The Salvation Army (designate Douglas, GA)
GoFundMe - Douglas, GA
(This gofund.me is being administered by a former student and soccer player of David’s. 100% of the funds are going directly to aid relief efforts to Douglas, GA.
